Papers of the Noland and Berkeley families, 179 , 1814,1870-1895.

The papers contain letters, 1870-1872, written to Nelson Berkeley Noland while he was on an Amazon exploration expedition. Most contain family and local news. An 1874 letter describes the Congressional elections and tactics used to defeat the radicals. The collection further contains guidebooks and magazines pertaining to the Berkeleys, various household recipes, a child's hymnal, a gardening handbook, surveys, bills, and clippings. Items of interest include the journal of a trip from Barn Elms to Providence, R.I., in 1797; and a notice, 1814 November from vestryman Carter Burwell Berkeley to the Overseers of the Poor, Middlesex County, Va., informing them that the communion plate owned by Christ Church Parish was privately donated and is not subject to sale. Correspondents include Theophilus Chandler.
